ClearyDoyle signs new sustainable campus expansion contract with Citywise Education
ClearyDoyle has signed a contract with Citywise Education, an innovative youth and education organisation based in the heart of West Tallaght, for the expansion of Citywise’s existing campus. This project will deliver a new building designed to meet future sustainability criteria and align with the international 2030 climate targets. The development will not only expand Citywise’s capacity to support young people in their community but also set a benchmark for sustainable building practices in Ireland.
A Pathfinder in Sustainable Construction
The new building will be guided by the ambition to achieve whole-life carbon zero as defined by the Irish Green Building Council. This will be realised through two core strategies:
- Net Zero Operational Energy – ensuring the building runs with minimal environmental impact by reducing energy demand and maximising efficiency.
- Minimising Embodied Carbon – carefully selecting materials with the lowest possible life-cycle carbon footprint.
Innovative Design and Construction Features
To achieve these goals, the design and methodology will incorporate:
* Maximised natural daylight and minimised service runs.
* Photovoltaic solar panels, ensuring the building is largely self-sufficient in energy.
* Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) as the primary structural material.
* Recycled brick with lime mortar for the external skin.
* CEM III/B cement across construction works.
* Insulated triple-glazed wood/aluminium composite windows to optimise thermal performance.
A lasting impact
This expansion is more than a building project—it is a statement of intent. It demonstrates how educational and community infrastructure can be both socially impactful and environmentally responsible. The project will not only provide a world-class facility for young people in West Tallaght but will also act as a model for sustainable development in Ireland.
Cleary Doyle is delighted to be partnering with Citywise Education on this project, and we look forward to delivering a facility that will inspire future generations while leaving a minimal environmental footprint.
